'Sacrifice' by Helen Birmingham
Sacrifice is a short play written by Helen Birmingham, under the tutorship of Ali Watt at Beach Hut Theatre Company. It tells the often harrowing story of a young couple during WW1, and the sacrifices they each make in the name of 'King and Country'.
The story is set in three locations, (Suffolk, Woolwich and Southampton). Much of the play takes the form of correspondence and monologue. Although the contextual information for the story is based on fact, the characters are fictitious.
A young soldier from the Suffolk Regiment of the British Army marrying his sweetheart, before leaving to fight in France.
